Steam rainbow roll cake

Steam rainbow roll cake? yes... it is a steam roll cake and it's colorful.

I get this recipe from "Langsung Enak" group and the person who create this is "Sif Oi".
Here is the recipe in Indonesian:
Bahan A:
300 gr gula pasir
12 kuning telur
8 putih telur
2 sdt SP/TBM/OVALET

Bahan B, Campur rata semua bahan:
160 gr tepung terigu
40 gr tepung maizena
1 sdt vanili bubuk
1/2 sdt garam
Bahan C:
200 ml minyak sayur
Cara Membuat:
1. Siapkan loyang kotak ukuran 26x26x6 cm, olesi bagian dasar loyang dengan minyak goreng, beri alas kertas roti dan oles kertas roti dengan minyak goreng.
2. Mixer bahan A dengan kecepatan tinggi hingga adonan menjadi putih dan kental. Turunkan kecepatan ke rendah.
3. Masukkan bahan B sedikit demi sedikit hingga habis tetap dengan menggunakan mixer kecepatan rendah.
6. Tuangkan adonan ungu ke loyang, ratakan & kukus selama 10 menit, tuangkan adonan biru, ratakan, kukus lagi, selanjutnya hijau, kuning, orange & merah. Kukus selama 15 menit sampai matang, matikan api, biarkan di klakat selama 10 menit.
7. Keluarkan dari loyang, biarkan dingin. Potong memanjang setebal 1/2cm, olesi selai, gulung rapi.

And here is the recipe in English:
Ingredient "A":
300gr castor sugar
12 yolk egg
8 white egg
2tsp Ovalet

Ingredient "B": (mixed well)
160gr cake flour
40gr corn flour
1tsp vanilla powder (I change this with vanilla essence 0.5 tsp)
1/2tsp salt

Ingredient "C":
200ml vegetable oil (I use olive oil)

Method:
1. prepare pan 26*26*6cm, grease the base with oil. layer it with baking paper.
2. mix all "A" with high speed until white and thick. Once it's white and tick, lower the speed.
3. pour "B" step by step until all finish (still using low speed).
4. mix in "C" until well mix.
5. divide the batter into 6 (I only use 5 colors).
6. put first color as the first layer into pan, steam for 10 mins. After 10 mins put another color and steam for another 10 mins. Repeat until all color done. The last color steam 15 mins and leave in the steamer for 10'.
7. take out from steamer and leave it cool. slice 1/2 cm, put the jam and roll it.

Maya's note: I steam 7 mins for each layer and the last layer 10 mins. The moment it is cooked well, I take out from steamer and slice thinly. If you do it when it's cooled down, it will break the roll.
I use Nutella as the spread instead of jam. My kids love Nutella instead of jam. So it is up to you what spread do you want to put.

Happy steaming, everyone. ^_^

Colorful Cotton Cake / Puding Busa

This is the first time I made pudding with white egg. And luckily my kids love it.

The recipe is as following (adapted from Rose Kwan's recipe):
Ingredient A:
10gr agar-agar powder (I use 1 packet of swallow agar-agar)
200ml santan /coconut milk / coconut cream (below there is picture of coconut cream that I use)
300ml fresh milk
70gr sugar

Ingredient B:
4cold white egg
30gr sugar
1tsp lemon juice

Method:
1. Beat (B) until turn white
2. In separate bowl, mix (A) and boil it.
3. Pour hot (A) to (B) and mix well
4. Divide into the number of color you want to create. For my cotton cake, I make 2 color.
So instead of colorful, I only make white (no color added) and for the brown color I used chocolate powder.
5. Put one color in the mold. Wait until a bit firm. I use fridge to make it firm faster.
6. Then take it out, and cut section that u want give other color.
7. Now put those cake back into the mold and pour the other color.

8. Repeat for all colors that you want to make.
9. Chill in the fridge.
Taraaaa ..... It's done

Take note that you need to keep the remaining batter (that has not been pour into mold) hot so that it won't become firm.

If you are wondering what is coconut powder, here is kara coconut cream powder. you can get it at any supermarket such as NTUC, Cold Storage, Giant or Prime. (photo taken from kara website)

And this is kara coconut cream that I use (200ml). (photo taken from kara website).

The original recipe is as following:

Try it. Happy baking!

Handmade Fridge

I still remember A's request after getting her handmade washing mashine. She requested to have fridge also.
So I started collecting box, clear plastic, bottle's cap and recycle it into "Fridge" :D
Even though hubby like to tease me that it is my new hobby to collect box ^_^; but he help to keep some boxes from things that he bought (which resulted another handmade items-see my next post). hahaha
This is my handmade fridge:

There are 5 major sections that I made:
1. bottom: it is compartment to keep vegetables and fruits.
2. middle: it is compartment for anything that no need to keep in the freezer or vegetable compartment.
3. top: freezer for ice cream, fish or meat.
4. sections that attached to the door:
     a. top: can be used to keep egg.
     b. bottom: can be used to keep bottle
5. front door is a section where kids can take "cold water" without opening the fridge.

Let's see what materials I used:
1. boxes. Over here I use 2 boxes for the fridge's body and for the shelf.
2. plastic is from any wrapping plastic (can't remember the brand). these plastic I use for the "glass" door.
3. cover for the cold water section I get it from the tools modelling cover. ( ^_^ just bought for my next adventure on baking)
4. drink carrier that I used for vegetables and fruits are collected from Imperial Treasury restaurant on 313 - Singapore (got it when I bought my dinners with 4 soya milk).
5. sticky tape
6. cutter
7. clue
8. rubber band to close the door.  You can see I put 4 small squares on the door and 1 medium rectangle on top also? I used this for the handle and also to enable kids to close the fridge.
9. stereofoam. I used this at the top section to give effect as an ice in the freezer. thinking of using cotton but end up using stereofoam.

It's quite fun making this fridge. Can't wait to see my kids' reaction seeing and playing with it.

Will you make the same thing for your kids?

Homemade/Handmade washing machine

Recently (I think a month ago) I saw a website which give me the idea of utilizing the cardbox. And it is so happened my hubby have an empty Lego box which is the perfect size for washing machine. So... I decided that I must make it.
And here is the result (version 1.0) of my handmade washing machine:

The moment kids saw it, they are very excited and busy exploring.
My eldest kid is busy asking me. "mommy it is very beautiful. How do you make it? Why do you make it? Can I decorate it? Can I wash my toys with this washing machine? Can I bring to school (for show and tell)?"

Looking at their happy face, make me feel really happy.

The second version is started when I think it is better if I put some more pink color onto it and also to make the soap container steady in its place. So i paste corrugated paper as the frame of the soap container and paste a circle on the mode selector. and taraaaaaaaaaa this is the outcome of version 2:

What do you need to have to make this washing machine? Is it expensive?
The material is from recycle items such as:
1. cardbox
2. corrugated paper
3. stereofoam
4. bottle cap (for the button)- i only have red and white
5. unused eraser and button (for the button)
6. clear plastic (for the tube's door)

tools:
1. paper cutter
2. scissors
3. glue
4. candle glue

As I only have red and white bottle cap, i used it for thermostat. Red is for very hot temperature, and white is for cold. Then how about warm? I make it with pink corrugated paper which are placed on top of stereofoam.

When I make this, my aim is that I want to make it at least they can also pretend to put the clothes into the washing machine, adjust the mode of washing and put in the "soap" into soap container.
Hence I make the soap container can be detached and the mode selector can be moved.

My eldest kid is very proud to have this washing machine hence today she bring it to school for her show and tell session. Can't wait to hear her story later.

Btw, this is the website that give me the idea of this washing machine: http://www.estefimachado.com.br/2012/12/menino-tambem-encosta-barriguinha-no.html  (I dont understand the language but only look at the picture, it is a good idea to recycle cardbox).

It's interesting right? why don't you try doing it?

Riding a bus

We've introduce her to many type of vehicle. From bike, car, truck, mini van, bus, train until aeroplane. And so far we never take truck nor mini van ^_^...

anyway, i like to sing to her 1 famous song about a bus. This song I will change the word "bus" to "bike" and some other words, if we are riding our bikes. Bikes? yes, bikes. Three of us will have a lot of fun on our cycling day.
And everytime we sing this song, we will mimic it with our hand accordingly to the word... like the hand make a round , or open and shut the door, press the horn, crying baby, the psst mimic and etc.... fun isn't it?

Wanna know the lyric for riding a bus? Here it is:
The wheel on the bus go round and round
round and round
round and round
The wheel on the bus go round and round
All through the town

The people on the bus go up and down
up and down
up and down
The people on the bus go up and down
All through the town

The door on the bus go open and shut
open and shut
open and shut
The door on the bus go open and shut
All through the town

The wiper on the bus go swish swish
swish swish
swish swish
The wiper on the bus go swish swish
All through the town

The horn on the bus go beep beep beep
beep beep beep
beep beep beep
The horn on the bus go beep beep beep
All through the town

The baby on the bus go oek oek oek
oek oek oek
oek oek oek
The baby on the bus go oek oek oek
All through the town

The mommy on the bus go psst psst psst
psst psst psst
psst psst psst
The daddy on the bus go psst psst psst
All through the town

Black sheep

another song that we love to sing is black sheep.
we hear this song from my brother last november 13 nov 2010 when he was trying to help me taking care of her and i found that my princess like it very much.
This is the lyric:
Baa baa black sheep have you any wool?
Yes sir yes sir three bags full
One for my master one for the dame
One for the little boy who live down the lane

It's become my habit that everytime i sing this to my princess, i will change "little boy" words to "little princess".

Now she can sing some words together with me yihaaaa

Thursday, March 24, 2011

barney song

this is the song that i like to sing together with my princess:
I love you
You love me
We are happy family
With a great big hug and kiss from me to you
Wont you say you love me too

I love you
You love me
We're best friend as friend should be
With a great big hug and kiss from me to you
Wont you say you love me too

We always give hug and kiss when it comes to "wuth a great big hug and kuss from me to you".
it's a sweet moment that we do love to do it

Weaning Off

I am trying to wean my princess from breastfeeding. She is 23 months old now and I plan to stop it soon. One of the advise that was given to me is to apply a bitter thing on my breast.
Then I am thinking to apply bratawali... an Indonesian plant which is considered as medical plant.
So before do that, I am google-ing and found out a lot of article about this.
Following are links that I read and give me more knowledge about this plant:
http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bratawali
http://jamu-sehat.blogspot.com/2009/06/bratawali-tinospora-crispa-mers.html
http://tanamanherbal.wordpress.com/2007/12/13/bratawali/

Sorry, I can't find the article about this plant in english.

Music Scales

Scale is a sequence of musical notes with specific order. There are few types of scale such as pentatonic (5 notes) and diatonic (7 notes). ...
